Two people, a male and a female, have been injured, one critically, following a multi-vehicle collision in Newmarket, say police.

The crash, which York Regional Police said involved five vehicles, happened late Saturday afternoon near Davis Drive and Jane Street.

York Regional Police said they were called to that area just after 4:30 p.m.

Fire and EMS are also now at the scene.

Police later said that the female patient is in life-threatening condition. The extent of the male’s injuries is not yet known.

Currently, Davis and Jane are closed and investigators from the Major Collision Bureau are attending the scene to help with the investigation

Police say drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes.
