The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for raw pistachio kernels recently sold at a store in Toronto’s west end.
The reason for this food recall is due to possible microbial contamination, specifically salmonella, the government agency said in a Sept. 27 notice.
The store in question is Kim Natural Food at 219 Roncesvalles Ave., which is located between Queen and Dundas streets.
Consumers are being advised to “not consume, use, sell, serve or distribute,” these recalled products, which were distributed in Ontario and sold from Sept. 11 up to and including Sept. 19, 2025.
The recalled nuts were available in bulk and purchased in varying quantities, the CFIA said.
“This recall is linked to an ongoing investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak,” it said, urging people to visit the Food Safety Investigation page for further details and related recall notifications and food recall warnings.
Anyone who believes they became ill due to consuming a recalled product is urged to contact their healthcare provider, check if you have any recalled products, do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute these items, and throw out or return any recalled products to the location where they were purchased.
“Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections,” CFIA said.
“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”
