Fianna Fáil’s presidential candidate Jim Gavin has said false online posts about his personal life were “shocking” and “upsetting”, and promised to make the issue of potential threats made on social media part of his agenda if elected.
In a five-minute interview at the end of a whirlwind west Dublin canvass, Mr Gavin said social media needed to be “called out” when it is “misused to spread disinformation, lies and abuse”.
