Oisín Johnston passed away on Thursday.
He was the son of Denise Johnston, the SDLP deputy chair of Mid-Ulster District Council.
A funeral for Mr Johnston, who was from the Ballymaguigan area of Co Derry, will take place on Sunday.
In a tribute, his mother said: “My beautiful baby, our lives are changed forever.”

It said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Oisín Johnston, beloved son of our dear friend and esteemed colleague, Councillor Denise Johnston.
“Oisín was a wonderful young man—witty, kind and wholeheartedly devoted to his mother and father. His warmth and spirit touched many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“Councillor Johnston has long been a source of strength and compassion for the people of Mid-Ulster, supporting families through grief, hardship and personal challenges. Now, in her time of sorrow, it is our turn to stand with her.
“The Mid-Ulster SDLP family offers our deepest condolences and unwavering support to Denise and her loved ones.
“We grieve with her, and we honour Oisín’s life and legacy.”
Mr Johnston was a member of St Trea’s GFC, Ballymaguigan.
The club said: “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of one of our young playing members, Oisin Johnston.

A family notice said Mr Johnston was “a beloved son” and “loving brother”.
Requiem Mass will take place at 2pm on Sunday in the Church of St Trea, Newbridge, with interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Councillor Denise Johnston
A representative for Moyola since 2014 and a party activist since 2005, Ms Johnston was elected to the council in 2023 and was appointed as deputy chair for the 2025/26 term.
