Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday condemned a massive, more than 12‑hour Russian assault that he called “a deliberate and targeted terror against ordinary cities,” saying the strikes came as the United Nations General Assembly week drew to a close.
“In the space of more than 12 hours, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine – brutal strikes, a deliberate and targeted terror against ordinary cities,” Zelensky said in a social media post.

He said the assault included nearly 500 strike drones and more than 40 missiles, including Kinzhal hypersonic weapons.
The strikes hit multiple areas in Kyiv and the Kyiv region early morning on Sunday, including the Solomianskyi district, where a five-story residential building partially collapsed, killing a 12-year-old girl and injuring several others. The Cardiology Institute was also hit, claiming two more lives.
“My condolences to the families and loved ones,” he said.
Zelensky said the attack was timed to coincide with the end of the UN General Assembly week.
“This cowardly attack effectively capped the week of the UN General Assembly, and it shows Russia’s true stance,” he said.
“Moscow wants to keep fighting and killing and deserves the harshest pressure from the world.”
He vowed that Ukraine would continue to strike back to deprive Russia of resources to fund the war and called for stronger international action.

The attacks on Zaporizhzhia occurred the same night as Russia’s massive overnight air assault on Kyiv, which killed at least three people and left widespread destruction across the capital.
“We will continue to strike back to deprive Russia of these earning opportunities and to force it to diplomacy,” he said. He urged the United States, Europe, the G7 and the G20 to take firm action.
Zelensky also called for wider economic measures against Russia. “Everyone who wants peace must support President Trump’s efforts and stop any Russian imports,” he wrote.
