During an appearance, US Vice President JD Vance stressed that Russia is responsible for the ongoing war in Ukraine, according to a Politico report on September 28.

“I think what has changed is the reality on the ground, with the Russians killing a lot of people and losing a lot of people and they don’t have much to show for it,” Vance stated, noting that US President Donald Trump’s recent shift on the war reflects concerns over Russia’s human losses and economic impact.

“What we have seen over the last couple weeks, the Russians have refused to sit down with any bilateral meetings with Ukrainians. They have refused to sit down with any trilateral meetings,” he said.

“The Russians have got to wake up and accept reality. A lot of people are dying and they don’t have a lot to show for it. How many more people are they willing to lose?” Vance said.

“How many people are they willing to kill for very little, if any, gain in the military advantage on the ground there?” he continued.

Vance didn’t confirm US commitment to sending Tomahawk long-range missiles to Ukraine, which Zelenskyy reportedly requested from Trump at the UN, according to Politico.

Asked whether he would support the shipment, he said the decision rests with the President Trump.

“What the president will do is what’s in the best interest of the United States of America,” Vance added.

Previously, Donald Trump escalated his criticism of Moscow, saying Russia is “killing people for no reason” and that its economy is “going to hell,” comments made at a press conference held in the White House.
