A man in his 30s has been arrested after three people were found dead at a house in County Louth, in the Republic of Ireland.

Gardaí (Irish police) remain at the scene in Tallanstown after arriving there on Monday morning.

Two men and a woman were found dead at the scene.

RTÉ (Irish broadcaster) has reported it is believed they were all from the same family and were violently attacked.

Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú said the deaths were “brutal and tragic”.

“It’s the last thing you want to be hearing about,” he added.

He urged anyone with information to come forward and said his thoughts were with those affected.

Fine Gael TD Paula Butterly said it was “absolutely shocking”.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole community and wider family members and friends.”
