A section of Highway 401 is closed east of Oshawa this morning following two separate collisions.
A two-vehicle crash occurred at around midnight in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Bowmanville Avenue.
Four people were taken to hospital, including two who suffered life-threatening injuries, Ontario Provincial Police said.
A second collision involving three transport trucks occurred nearby, near Holt Road, at around 6 a.m.
Police said the eastbound lanes of the highway are closed between Courtice Road and Liberty Street South, with traffic being redirected to Highway 418.
The highway is expected to be closed until “late morning,” the OPP confirmed.
