The Lough Swilly RNLI crew saved a person struggling in the water in Buncrana yesterday.

A member of the public had reported someone in difficulty in the water in the Ladies Bay area shortly after 2.30pm. The RNLI crew immediately launched the Atlantic 85 fast lifeboat and a shore crew were also sent to the area.

The person was successfully rescued and brought to shore to a waiting ambulance.

This was the second call-out on a particularly busy afternoon for the RNLI volunteers.

The first call came in at 13.27 after a small boat had developed mechanical problems just North of Dunree Head.

Volunteers launched the All-Weather Lifeboat to reach the boat. They decided to two the small boat with two persons onboard to the safety of Rathmullan pier.

Joe Joyce from Lough Swilly RNLI paid tribute to the crew today. “This was a particularly busy day for our volunteers, having two shouts so close together and Buncrana was gridlocked with traffic today with the good weather. I would also like to thank the public for their help with the second incident.”
