MAGA world is sending support to National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard amid her bombshell claims against former President Barack Obama.
The Justice Department on Monday confirmed it had received Gabbard’s criminal referral after she alleged that Obama administration officials had “manufactured and politicized intelligence” to undermine Trump’s 2016 presidential election victory. She argues that documents show that Russia did not attempt to influence the election in favor of Trump, despite several investigations that found otherwise.
During remarks to reporters on Tuesday, Trump accused Obama of committing “treason,” claiming that his predecessor had rigged both the 2016 and 2020 elections against him. He made those accusations after pivoting when asked about late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein — a topic that has caused an uproar among his own base in recent weeks.
“After what they did to me — and whether it’s right or wrong, it’s time to go after people. Obama’s been caught directly,” Trump said.
Obama’s office issued a rare rebuke of the hours later, writing in a statement that “These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.”
MAGA faithful have since backed Gabbard, with journalist Nick Sortor leading the charge on X late Tuesday.
“I don’t think people realize just how much danger Tulsi Gabbard is putting herself in by exposing the deep state at this level. ESPECIALLY someone like Barack Obama,” Sortor wrote.
“This is what a TRUE patriot looks like. God bless you, @TulsiGabbard,” he continued, adding the praying hands emoji.
Far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones responded, “Dead on!”
“Pray for @TulsiGabbard,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) added.
Influencer Gunther Eagleman said: “Keep her protected at ALL costs.”
“May God continue to protect Tulsi Gabbard,” one user wrote, and another used the hashtag “#protectTulsi.”
Someone also claimed that “They are going to come at her hard with more fabricated stories.”
During a later event with congressional Republicans on Tuesday, Trump had praised Gabbard with a superlative and again claimed that Obama was involved in an effort to rig the elections.
“She’s like, hotter than everybody. She’s the hottest one in the room right now,” Trump said of Gabbard.
“Speaker, she’s hotter than you right now, speaker. She’s the hottest person in the room right now, speaker,” he added, to roaring laughter.
Trump has appeared to use the timing of Gabbard’s “treasonous conspiracy” revelation to divert attention from his administration’s handling of the so-called Epstein files. Frustration from the president’s supporters, some congressional Republicans and Democrats alike ignited after the Justice Department and FBI concluded in a memo earlier this month that Epstein did not keep a “client list,” blackmail public figures or was murdered in his jail cell while awaiting trial in 2019.
“She has all the documents, she has everything that you need,” Trump said during the event. “You’ve found things that nobody thought we’d ever find. Very happy and very honored to have you with us.”
Earlier on Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed that the lower chamber would not vote on any measures related to the convicted sex offender before departing until September. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, meanwhile, announced that the DOJ is seeking an interview with Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022 for helping him sexually abuse underage girls.
