Darren Reeves will join Port Adelaide ahead of the 2026 season as an assistant coach.
Two-time SANFL premiership coach Darren Reeves will join Port Adelaide ahead of the 2026 season as an assistant coach.
Reeves brings exceptional credentials to Alberton, having guided Glenelg to back-to-back SANFL premierships in 2023 and 2024, during his first two seasons as senior coach.
Under his leadership, the Tigers also reached a third consecutive grand final in 2025.
The appointment further strengthens Josh Carr’s coaching structure, with Reeves taking responsibility for stoppage work, contest coaching, and opposition analysis in 2026.
His coaching resume includes two successful seasons as senior assistant at North Adelaide, where he helped deliver consecutive finals campaigns, including a grand final in 2022.
Reeves’ development pathway also encompasses roles with the NT Thunder and Central District’s league, reserves and under 18 programs.
Port Adelaide CEO Matthew Richardson welcomed Reeves to the club.
“Darren has demonstrated exceptional coaching ability at SANFL level,” Mr Richardson said.
“Leading a SANFL club to three consecutive grand finals, including back-to-back premierships in his first two years is an incredible achievement.
“His proven ability to build strong relationships with players and staff, combined with his sharp game sense, makes him an invaluable addition to our coaching panel.
“We’re delighted to welcome Darren to Port Adelaide.”
Reeves was thrilled to land at Alberton, embracing the challenge of coaching at the elite level.
“I’ve always harboured the ambition of coaching in an AFL environment, so I’m incredibly excited to be joining Port Adelaide,” he said.
“Working under Josh Carr and having the opportunity to be part of shaping the AFL program moving forward is really appealing.
“I have great admiration for Port Adelaide’s history and it’s clear the club has a very talented young playing list with huge upside.
“I feel so fortunate and grateful for my time at Glenelg. I want to thank them for supporting me over the last three years.”
