A schoolboy is the latest person to be arrested in connection to a vicious attack that resulted in a man having his hand “cut clean off” before running into a pub for help. The ECHO earlier reported how the man had been at an 18th birthday party on Friday, September 26, in a house on Colin Close, Huyton, when the incident took place.

He then ran to the Stanley Arms on Roby Road, directly across the road from the party, shortly after midnight on Saturday, September 27, where staff saw to the victim, with one witness explaining how he had his hand “cut clean off” as he entered the premises. The pub was moments from closing, with staff believed to be seconds away from locking the door.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of s18 grievous bodily harm with intent and s18 wounding with intent.

It has now been announced that a 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of s18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

They both remain in custody.

Neighbours told the ECHO how there had been a party on the night of Friday, September 26, with an 18th birthday banner on the front door of the property where the assault is believed to have happened.

Shortly after midnight, the victim ran into the pub, with police confirming he has suffered a “potentially life-changing” injury, while a girl, 17, also suffered a minor hand injury during the incident.

A further source said the man ran into the pub with “part of his arm hacked off”. Dry blood was visible on the door frame and door step of the property on Colin Close as police worked in the area.

A large police presence has remained at the address throughout the weekend and into Monday, with scientific support officers working in and around the address.

The pub remained shut on Saturday while professional cleaners worked at the scene. One witness said: “There was blood everywhere and the pub was seconds away from locking the doors when he ran in.”

One neighbour said how he witnessed a large group of people in the alleyway next to the row of houses on Colin Close, which connects Roby Road and Lawton Road.

He said: “I was watching the aftermath of the Ryder Cup and I just saw this large group of young people appear in the alleyway just after midnight.

“They were there behind the houses and there was more than 10 but I couldn’t be certain how many exactly.”

The man who lives nearby said it was quiet through the night despite the assault and it is usually a “quiet area”.

A spokesperson for The Stanley Arms, said: “On Friday night our team were called on to help a local member of the community who came into our venue after closing time seeking help for a serious injury.

“Emergency services were called and the individual received treatment.”
