After what was a tense few days at Bethpage, you can be sure that Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy, and the rest of the European team will enjoy the celebrations that come after their Ryder Cup victory.

They entered the week hoping to become the first team to win a Ryder Cup on away soil since 2012, with that particular feat becoming an increasingly difficult one to achieve over the last decade or so. Confidence was high that they could get the job done, as Luke Donald selected what was a very talented and experienced team.

Europe would go on to blow the USA side away over the opening couple of days, and while there were some nervy moments during Sunday’s singles, they would eventually get the job done.

Shane Lowry was the man that sunk the putt to guarantee that Europe would retain the Ryder Cup, with the Irishman overwhelmed in the moments after.

However, it did not take long for him to quickly look towards the celebrations that were set to follow.

Lowry would kick off the festivities by making a rather cheeky gesture at Bethpage. Having spotted a sign that said that Europe had won the Ryder Cup in 15 occasions, he got his hands on a marker to make the adjustments necessary to mark the team’s 16th triumph.

It went down a treat with the European fans on site.

The celebrations would soon continue on the team bus, with the Europeans leading chants about Rory McIlroy and of We Are The Champions as they made their way from the course.

Considering the sense of relief that this victory will bring after two long years of planning, you can be certain that the partying will continue over the coming days.
