The Labour Party has spent much of the 18 years since Tony Blair left office trying to close divides that emerged during his tenure. His return to center stage — joining American-led efforts to end one of the world’s most intractable conflicts — risks tearing them open again.
Blair, known for resolving conflicts in Northern Ireland and Kosovo and joining the US invasion of Iraq, will play a key role in rebuilding and running Gaza if Israel and Hamas agree to a ceasefire. US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to a 20-point peace plan on Monday, which would see a “technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee” govern Gaza with the oversight of a “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump alongside Blair and others.
