Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has previously offered a glowing verdict of Reds-linked Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

Current United manager Ruben Amorim finds himself under huge pressure following the 3-1 defeat at Brentford on Saturday. The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that Amorim retains the backing of United’s board as things stand, but his future continues to dominate headlines.

Amorim has taken just 34 points from a possible 99 in the Premier League during his time in charge. United decision-makers were forced to clarify his position following the Carabao Cup humiliation to Grimsby Town last month.

It comes amid claims that United have compiled a three-man shortlist to potentially replace the former Sporting boss if things don’t improve. It is said that former England manager Gareth Southgate, Andoni Iraola and Glasner are of interest as pressure mounts on Amorim to arrest United’s alarming decline.

Rangnick, who endured a difficult interim spell at Old Trafford in 2021/22, has previously provided a hugely positive assessment of Glasner’s coaching abilities.

“For me, Oliver Glasner is currently one of the most exciting coaches – not only in Germany, but in all of Europe. An absolute top coach,” Rangnick said via LAOLA1 in March 2023.

Glasner has been widely praised for his excellent work at Palace, who are currently on an 18-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. The South London side won the FA Cup last term – stunning Manchester City – before also lifting the Community Shield with victory over Liverpool in August.

Palace also recorded another win over Arne Slot’s team on Saturday – ending their unbeaten start to the season.

Speculation is now building on whether an approach will be made for Glasner before the season ends, with the Austrian also deploying a back-three system similar to the one Amorim deploys.
