A hurdle for Canadian fans hoping to watch the potential series between the Blue Jays and Yankees as tickets have been restricted to U.S. residents.
Canadians who are hoping to catch the Toronto Blue Jays in the Bronx if they face the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series (ALDS) will not be able to get tickets to the games.
If the Yankees advance past the Boston Red Sox in the AL Wild Card, Games 3 and 4 would be at Yankee Stadium on Oct. 7 and 8, respectively. According to a note on Ticketmaster’s website, sales to the event will be restricted to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
Ticketmaster website A note on the Ticketmaster page for a possible Game 3 of the Division Series at Yankee Stadium says tickets are limited to those who live in and around New York.
“Residency will be based on credit card billing address,” the note reads. “Orders by residents outside New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania will be cancelled without notice and refunds given.”
A spokesperson for Ticketmaster told CP24 on Monday that “sometimes teams will place geographic restrictions on certain events to give local fans the best chance to attend.”
CP24 has reached out to the Yankees for comment but as of the publication of this story, have not heard back.
The Yankees are facing the Red Sox in a best-of-three Wild Card series at Yankee Stadium, with the winner travelling to Toronto for the ALDS.
If Boston advances, Canadian fans should be able to purchase a ticket at Fenway Park, as there is no similar note on Ticketmaster.
A spokesperson for the Red Sox told CP24 in an email that they “do not limit purchase eligibility at Fenway Park.”
Jays tickets restricted to Canadian fans
As for Red Sox or Yankees fans who hope to catch games at Rogers Centre, they need to have a Canadian billing address.
The Blue Jays have restricted tickets to those with Canadian billing addresses, saying the policy, which began during the regular season, is in place to “keep tickets in the hands of Blue Jays fans across the country.”
As the Blue Jays await their opponent, the team is hosting a pair of intrasquad games at Rogers Centre on Wednesday and Thursday.
Toronto has not revealed its pitching rotation, but Kevin Gausman and Shane Bieber are expected to take the mound in Games 1 and 2, respectively.
This is not the first time Canadian sports fans have been barred from buying tickets for road games.
In 2023, the Florida Panthers limited the sale of second-round playoff tickets to local residents for 24 hours, keeping them out of the hands of fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
