The security establishment is on high alert to prevent security escalation, following the recent string of attacks. Among other measures, forces have been reinforced in Judea and Samaria – where about 24 battalions are stationed, with their main mission being to protect the seam line to prevent infiltration of terrorists, and of course to protect the roads and settlements. The police have also completed their preparations for Yom Kippur, and will increase patrols in city centers and sensitive areas. Police have called on citizens with gun licenses to carry their weapons with them during prayers in synagogues. Additionally, concrete barriers were placed at the entrances to Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem before the holiday begins, aiming to prevent friction and confrontations. The checkpoints will be removed after the holiday ends.
