Three people have been taken to hospital and two others are “unaccounted for” after a destructive house fire in Bucklands Beach overnight.

Counties Manukau Police have told the Eastern Times that emergency services were alerted to the blaze at the two-storey residence in Murvale Drive in the early hours of today, October 2.

Counties Manukau Police CIB detective inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va’aelua says: “At around 2.30am reports were received that a property was fully ablaze.

“Police and Fire and Emergency NZ are at the scene with an investigation underway.

“At this stage we can advise that two people are currently outstanding.

“We’re working to establish what has occurred and urgently locate the people unaccounted for.

“Three further people have been taken to hospital with inquires ranging from serious to minor.

“Police will remain on scene with cordons established on Murvale Drive, between Janome Place and Jandell Crescent.

“Police will provide further information as it becomes available,” says Va’aelua.

When the Eastern Times visited the scene in usually quiet Murvale Drive this Thursday morning, two fire trucks and crews and police investigators and officers were in attendance.

Members of the public were asked to keep outside the cordon.

A fire investigator is due to be inspecting the scene this morning.

Hato Hone St John has told the Times it was notified of the fire incident at 2.36am today, October 2.

“Two ambulances and one operations manager attended.

“Two patients, one in serious condition and one in moderate condition, were transported to Middlemore Hospital.

“One additional patient, in minor condition, was assessed and treated at the scene – no transport required,” says Hato Hone St John.

Fire and Emergency NZ has told the Times: “You will need to contact police for further details,” indicating the incident is now a police investigation.
