In just his second month in the division, Martin Zubimendi has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for September.
Our Spanish midfielder helped us navigate our way through a tricky month unbeaten, keeping us to within two points of league leaders Liverpool after six matches.
The highlight of Martin’s month was his first-ever career brace against Nottingham Forest. His maiden goal for the club came in fine style as he volleyed in from the edge of the box to get the scoring underway in our 3-0 success, which he capped by heading into the top corner.
He has continued to make a huge impression on his new supporters, playing all but nine minutes in the league this season. He helped us to earn a 1-1 draw against Manchester City before we finished the month with a 2-1 success against Newcastle United, and while his goals against Forest caught the eye, his defensive work has also been impressive – no Gunner has made more interceptions or blocks so far this campaign.
Martin is one of six players shortlisted for the second award of the campaign. Erling Haaland’s five goals in three matches see him nominated, as has Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada for helping the Eagles to be the only remaining unbeaten side in England’s top-flight.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh scored once and assisted two others to get the nod, while Sunderland’s strong start to the season has seen goalkeeper Robin Roefs and ex-Gunner Granit Xhaka recognised for helping the Black Cats to two clean sheets, while Xhaka also created a pair of goals.
You can vote for Martin now until the poll closes at midday on Monday, October 6.
