A woman’s body wrapped in plastic and rope has been found in a creek at a popular tourist destination, the fourth discovery in waters on the Gold CoastĀ in less than a week.
Police were called to Currumbin Creek near Whitsunday Drive at about 2.50pm on Wednesday following the horrific discovery by a shocked resident.
The local told their neighbours that the woman appeared to be Asian and was wearing a child-sized life vest tied at the front with rope.
A backpack was also found in the water nearby.
It’s understood the fully clothed body may have been in the water for several days.
Police divers who retrieved the woman’s body used a neighbourās boat to bring it to shore.
Detectives door-knocked residents as an investigation was launched.
Police say it will take some time to identify the woman.Ā

‘Police will await the results of a postmortem to determine the cause of death,’ a spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
‘A crime scene was declared at the location while forensic examinations were completed.
‘Investigations are continuing.’
Neighbours have recalled their horror at seeing the semi-submerged body floating in the water.
‘It was dark ⦠it was something I couldnāt recognise,’ one man told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
‘Itās a shocking thing to happen in this area; these things donāt tend to happen here.’
Another local added: ‘Itās very sad and we were concerned for the welfare of our neighbours and the police who have to deal with this stuff.’

The latest tragedy comes just days after the lifeless body of another fully clothed woman was discovered by passers-by at a popular beach early Sunday morning.
The woman in her 70s was discovered near the shore at Palm Beach, just 24 hours after a man was found dead on the rocks at Echo Beach in Tallebudgera, less than 10km away, last Saturday morning.
Police believe the man may have suffered a medical episode by the water’s edge, just metres fromĀ families and joggers.
‘We have no idea what happened but itās horribly sad to see this,’ one local said.
A second man, 31, was found dead in a pool at a Varsity Lakes unit complex on Sunday.Ā
The three previous deaths are all unrelated and are not being treated as suspicious by police.Ā
Superintendent Brett Jackson said it was a traumatic weekend for passers-by on the popular beaches to see the bodies.
‘It was a sombre weekend for many,’ he told reporters on Monday.
‘It’s terribly sad, terribly tragic.’
