The Manhattan court in New York rejected the Trump administration’s position and ruled that the UN relief agency, UNRWA, cannot be prosecuted despite a lawsuit by survivors of the October 7 attack who claimed the agency indirectly assisted Hamas. Federal Judge Analisa Torres determined that UNRWA is protected by immunity because it is part of the United Nations. The Trump administration argued in April that UNRWA and its senior officials are not entitled to immunity and should be held accountable in an American court, contrary to the Biden administration’s position which supported the organization’s immunity.
