Fire and Emergency are responding to reports that several homes have been damaged by a tornado in the Bay of Plenty .
FENZ shift manager Paul Radden said four crews were at the scene on State Highway 30 in Awakeri, about 11km from Whakatāne, where several roofs appeared to have lifted.
Crews from Edgecumbe and Whakatāne were on site.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one ambulance and one manager had also responded to the scene, but medical assistance was not required.
