Saturday’s win against West Ham United was a special occasion for Mikel Arteta, as he oversaw his 300th match as our manager – something only six others in history have done.
It’s been nearly six years since the Spaniard first sat in our dugout as our boss, and the stats show that it’s been a hugely successful tenure so far.
That’s because no Arsenal manager has picked up more wins in their first 300 matches in all competitions than Mikel, who has 177 so far to his name:Â

That’s 13 more than Arsene Wenger achieved at the start of his tenure, and 20* more than George Graham managed:

Mikel also stands shoulder to shoulder with the most illustrious names in English football history. Only three managers have ever won more than 177 times in their first 300 in charge of a top-flight English club – Pep Guardiola with Manchester City (219), Jose Mourinho with Chelsea (196 across two spells) and Kenny Dalglish with Liverpool (185).
Taking only into account bosses who have been in charge of 50 Gunners games, Mikel’s current total of 58.9% sees him just ahead of the previous two incumbents of the role, Wenger and his fellow countryman Unai Emery:

The 44-year-old is the seventh Arsenal manager to oversee 300 matches, and is the second youngest to do so behind Terry Neill, who was just 39 years and 176 days old on the occasion of his 300th match.
When it comes to players selected in that time, Mikel has picked 80 different Gunners since he first scribbled on a teamsheet at Bournemouth in December 2019. 15 players have been selected over 100 times, while 13 have been picked just once.Â
One player has remained with the club since that day, so it’s unsurprising to see Bukayo Saka way out in front in terms of games played and goals scored during Mikel’s stint in charge:
