Taylor Swift is back breaking the internet again following the release of her latest twelfth studio album The Life of the Showgirl in the last 24 hours. 

Swift joined Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee and Jodie Turner-Smith on the season premiere of the Graham Norton show on Friday on the BBC.

Swift is one of the world’s most famous people and it was interesting to watch her interact with one of Ireland’s most famous people for 40 minutes on network television.

Case in point. Greta Lee was on the show to promote her new film Tron: Ares. As Lee discussed her preparation for the film, she admitted to Swift that she tried her famous treadmill workout to prepare for the role.

Swift had previously said she prepared for the Eras tour by doing three-and-a-half hour treadmill sessions – running the fast songs and walking the slow songs, while singing the whole time. It’s a huge workout that has wrecked ultrarunners.

The conversation sparked a nice moment of Corkness from the Oppenheimer star.

GL: Taylor, I’d heard that there’s something you do to prepare for your tours. The treadmill…

TS: Yea it’s horrible. I do the whole setlist while running on the treadmill.

CM: No way.

TS: While running up the treadmill. It’s one of the worst things I have to do.

CM: Three and a half hours?

TS: But it worked.

Murphy’s astonishment seemed genuine in the moment, and his Cork accent became crystal clear.

There’s been plenty of online intrigue over Swift and Murphy sitting beside each other’s on Norton’s red couch. Swift flashed the engagement ring she’s received from Travis Kelce to the panellists, which spawned a very meme-able reaction from the Cork actor.

Perhaps the most notable aspect of the programme from an Irish perspective was a discussion between Murphy and Norton on Cork bus station, which is where Murphy’s band Mr Green Genes took some promotional photographs back in the day.

Swift would share that she met Murphy’s teenage sons Malachy and Aran after the 2024 Academy Awards and only had gracious things to say about them.

“They were delightful, your sons are the future of our world. They were such great conversationalists; they were interesting and interested. That’s a great accomplishment.”

Murphy added: “We were at the party, I had the whole gang, my family and my kids. I don’t think my kids were legally allowed to be there, really.”
