A six-year-old girl is in a critical condition following a devastating crash in Virginia, north of Adelaide, on Sunday.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene just after 11am, where a Toyota van and a Toyota ute collided at the intersection of King Rd and Penfield Rd.

The young girl, a passenger in the van, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two other children in the van, aged 10 and 11, along with the 42-year-old female driver from Murray Bridge, were also hospitalised with minor injuries.

The ute’s occupants — a 37-year-old Virginia man and a four-year-old girl — were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection remains closed in all directions as police and Major Crash investigators comb the scene for clues.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
