Two people have been arrested following a distraction theft and robbery that left an elderly man injured outside a Scarborough shopping plaza, Toronto police say.
In a news release, officials say they responded to a call for an assault at around 4:20 p.m. on Sept. 16 in the area of Eglinton Avenue East and Pharmacy Avenue, near Eglinton Square Shopping Centre.
Investigators allege one of the suspects approached the victim while he was in his vehicle, offering him money and a watch.
“When the victim declined, the accused removed the victims Rolex watch causing injuries to his arm and hand,” officials wrote.
It’s alleged that the man then fled in a dark-coloured van.
As a result, police arrested 39-year-old Ion Stan, of no fixed address, and Armeanca Fardi, 25, of Toronto.
Stan is charged with robbery and three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance. Fardi faces robbery, several counts of failing to comply with a release order, and one count of failing to comply with a probation order.
Police say both suspects appeared in court on Oct. 4. None of the charges have been officially tested.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
