Drivers heading from Wellington city to Miramar should expect delays this morning following a bus crash on Wellington Rd/ State Highway 1 in Hataitai.

Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash involving a bus near Kilbirnie Crescent shortly before 6am.

Wellington Free Ambulance said one person in a serious condition was taken to hospital.

New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said the highway was currently closed to southbound traffic between Taurima Street and Hamilton Rd.

The road was open to northbound traffic.

Traffic management was in place and motorists were advised to plan ahead and expect delays.

“Road users can expect ongoing delays through the area can be expected until the incident is resolved. Drivers, particularly those heading to Wellington Airport and the Miramar Peninsula, should allow extra time for their journeys,” NZTA said.
