Five children aged between 13 and 14, three of whom police say were on bail, have been charged after allegedly stealing two cars and colliding with a police car on the Gold Coast.
The teenagers were allegedly speeding in a stolen Hyundai Elantra and BMW X6 in convoy about 3am on Riverview Road in Nerang in the early hours of yesterday morning when they were spotted by police.
Police say when the teens spotted another police car patrolling further up Riverview Road, the driver of the Hyundai braked heavily.
This caused the BMW to crash into it from behind, which sent the Hyundai careening into the police vehicle and then a parked car.
Five teenagers fled the two cars on foot but were arrested shortly afterwards.
Police allege the BMW was stolen from an Upper Coomera address earlier that evening, and the Hyundai was stolen from an Underwood address on Friday.
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with seven offences, including stealing, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, enter premises and burglary and three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Another 14-year-old boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary.
A third 14-year-old boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and breach of bail conditions.
A 13-year-old boy has been charged with burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and breach of bail conditions.
A 13-year-old girl has been charged with burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of breach of bail conditions.
They are due to appear before Southport Children’s Court today.
One male police sergeant was taken to hospital for assessment.
