Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was the latest to receive a red card, however will be much more content with the circumstances surrounding this one.

The Italian will not be present for their first game after the international break against Nottingham Forest after he was sent off following his wild celebrations at the end of the huge win over Liverpool.

Estevao Willian’s last-minute winner had sent Stamford Bridge into raptures as the Blues got themselves back to winning ways after a tough few weeks in the Premier League.

They had lost the last two games against Manchester United and Brighton, with Robert Sanchez and Trevoh Chalobah being sent off in consecutive matches.

The post-match media duties were undertaken by Maresca’s assistant, Willy Caballero, with the Italian not allowed to do so after his red card.

Jamie Carragher believes it was a ‘ridiculous’ decision for him to not be able to share his thoughts, and he was a huge fan of his celebration, even if it was against his beloved Liverpool.

Carragher said: “I loved the manager’s celebration. I loved him running down there. I can’t believe he can’t come in front of the cameras afterwards, that’s just ridiculous. You wanna hear from him.

“For me, his biggest result. That will build a connection with the supporters. I said a lot last season with Enzo Maresca, I’m a huge fan of his and think he’s a really good coach, as I said, everytime he’s come up against Liverpool, he has a plan to get the better of them.

“At times, there wasn’t that real connection with supporters, and maybe that was just showing in the last few weeks again, because obviously with everything that happened over the summer was fantastic, but some poor results.

“But celebrating like that, a win like that against the champions, I think it creates a real strong bond.”

Chelsea fans were quick to poke fun at Carragher after the result, due to what they see as unfair criticism of the Blues over the past few seasons.

Carragher predicted Chelsea wouldn’t reach the Champions League knockout stage, something which supporters would struggle to agree with after their victory against Benfica.

There is certainly substance in a lot of what the pundit says. There is reason to have expected more of Chelsea in the era Todd Boehly has been in charge, given the amount of money that’s been spent.

However, things are certainly looking up with Maresca at the helm, and now the players will have to back this up in their next game when he is not present.
