A central Dublin bookshop has been damaged after an arson attack overnight.

Dublin’s oldest independent bookstore, Books Upstairs, on D’Olier Street, Dublin 2, was set on fire at approximately 3am today.

The investigation is underway as gardaí and emergency services came to the scene of the “criminal damage by fire” in the early hours of Monday morning.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed there were no injuries reported during the incident.

The front of the iconic bookshop is believed to be damaged, with debris located on the footpath.

The shop was also cordoned off by the gardaí on D’Olier Street.

No arrested have yet been made in connection with the incident.
