A man has died following a house fire in the Killygowan area of Co Cavan.
The rural two storey residence is located about 6km west of Cavan Town.
Gardaà say they were called to the scene yesterday evening at around 7.35pm.
Units of Cavan County Fire Service from Cavan town and Killeshandra responded to the incident.
Firefighters encountered what they described as a well-developed fire, with the roof structure already having collapsed and the first floor completely enveloped.
After the fire was brought under control, a detailed search under challenging conditions ensued with the remains of one deceased adult casualty discovered upstairs in the home.
The scene of the fire was preserved for a technical examination this morning.
The office of the local Coroner has been notified. Gardai say enquiries are ongoing but it’s understood that no foul play is suspected.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Cavan County Fire Service said they, “convey our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the deceased.”
