An early morning crash has closed Burnaby Mountain Parkway on Thursday.
In a statement, the Burnaby RCMP says the crash happened at around 4 a.m. Photos from the scene show a badly damaged vehicle, with debris strewn across the roadway.
“As investigators work to determine the cause of the crash, we ask that the public avoid Burnaby Mountain Parkway between Gagliardi Way and Duthie Avenue,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj explained.
Police say the closure of Burnaby Mountain Parkway will remain in place for the morning, potentially stretching into the afternoon.
Mounties did not provide details on whether any of the occupants of the vehicle were injured during the crash.
TransLink says the 144 and R5 bus routes are being detoured around the closure.
“Police do not have anything further to share at this time; however, more information will be provided as soon as it is available. Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team has conduct of the investigation, which is ongoing,” Kalanj said.
