Gardaí have seized drugs worth around €8.2 million during an operation targeting organised crime.

More than 110 kilos of cocaine and 1.5 kilos of heroin, along with £38,000 and €63,000, were seized yesterday and today.

The drugs were recovered from two vans seized during the operation and will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

The operation involved searches of 16 properties across counties Dublin, Meath, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly. One man in his 40s has been arrested.

Gardaí said 60 members of the force participated in the operation “aimed at dismantling a well-structured criminal organisation involved in large-scale drug distribution”.

The searches were led by the Terenure Drugs Unit, with support from the Terenure Serious Crime Unit, the DMR South Divisional Crime and Community Engagement Units, the Dublin Crime Response Team, the DMR Armed Support Unit and the Stolen Car Unit of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The arrested man is being held at a garda station in the Dublin region.
