Two men have been injured after a piece of mechanical equipment used to hoist them up caught fire in North York on Wednesday morning.

The blaze broke out just before 11 a.m. in the area of Haynes Avenue and Assiniboine Road, west of Keele Street and north of Finch Avenue West, near York University.

Toronto police said they were called to that area after receiving reports of a a cherry-picker on fire with two men in the bucket.

They said that one man in his 30s was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, while a second male, also in his 30s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
