Direct flights from between City of Derry Airport and Dublin Airport will return to the skies in 2026, it has been confirmed.
The government announced the return of the Public Service Obligation (PSO) service in yesterday’s budget.
Minister Jack Chambers said the government’s allocation of resources to the Shared Island initiative will double by a further €1 billion out to 2035 to include the new Dublin-Derry airlink.
A daily service between City of Derry Airport and Dublin, funded by the Irish government, was cancelled in 2011.
Steve Frazer, Manager of City of Derry Airport, has said he hopes the reinstated service could be up and running by Spring. It will now go out to public procurement for airlines to bid for the services.
