Oct. 8 (UPI) — Google‘s COVID-era “work from anywhere” policy has become more restrictive as the tech firm’s leaders have adjusted how it designates weeks away from work.
Google already has limited workers to no more than four weeks of remote work away from their respective workplaces,
Newly revised workplace regulations will count as little as an individual day of work as a full week of remote work instead up every five days counting as a week away, according to CNBC.
Google employees can work remotely for between one of five days during the same week and have it count as a week of remote work.
Workers who spend between one and four days away during a single week will lose an entire week of remote work per calendar year instead of having every five days count as a single workweek.
The remote work also must be done from a significant distance instead of at home or another nearby location, The Tech Buzz reported.
The policy change takes effect in the summer, and policy violations could result in the firing of offenders.
Google has more than 180,000 employees and is among other prominent tech firms to tighten their pandemic-era remote work policies.
Amazon has required all of its workers to return to the office, while Microsoft is requiring at least three days of office work, according to The Tech Buzz.
