London, 9th October 2025 – On the 30th of September 2025, the Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) hosted a fringe event on the Genocide in Gaza at the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council, highlighting the methods of genocide including killing, ethnic cleansing, and starvation, whilst exploring avenues for accountability and justice.  

The event was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, as a fringe event of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council. ICJP’s Head of Legal, Mutahir Ahmed spoke to a packed room where attendees included representatives from Palestine, Costa Rica, Portugal, India, Sri Lanka, Belgium, the European Union, and others.  Ahmed discussed some of ICJP’s legal work, including Criminal Complaints submitted in the UK to SO15 and Scotland Yard against UK & Israeli ministers, as well as British individuals for their complicity in war crimes.  

Ahmed also discussed ICJP’s  evidence gathering from medical professionals & Palestinian civilians;  ICJP’s role in providing evidence to South Africa’s legal team which helped formulate their submissions to the ICC;  ICJP’s support in sharing evidence with Al-Haq & GLAN in legal proceedings against the UK Government with regards to sale of Arms to Israel; and the worldwide legal coalition under Global 195, which is dedicated to holding to account Israeli and dual national individuals alleged to have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.   

The event was moderated by Astrid Bochanakian of the Geneva International Centre for Justice. Other speakers included Dr. Julie Billaud from the Geneva Graduate Institute, who analysed the famine in Gaza and the “starvation experiment”, and Dr. Nijmeh Ali from the Middle East Studies Association, who described the patterns of genocidal destruction and strategies for international pressure.  

The event brought together critical voices to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people., stressing the criticality of the need to turn Palestinian state recognition into action and ensure justice for Palestinians everywhere.  

In his presentation, Ahmed also highlighted the importance of holding perpetrators to account and emphasised that from the top to the bottom of the chain of command, those complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity must be brought to justice.
