Given the private nature of the Royal Family, it’s fair to say that Prince William has been notably open of late. From a conversation about his “hardest year yet” to an emotional comment about “missing” his late grandmother, the Queen, the Prince of Wales seems to be spilling more royal tea than ever before. But one revelation from the Prince reportedly has experts “deeply unsettled.”

To recap, the 43-year-old recently appeared on Eugene Levy’s The Reluctant Traveler docuseries last week. As well as giving the Schitt’s Creek actor a tour of Windsor Castle (via an e-scooter), the royal shared details of his plans for the monarchy when he becomes King.

Commenting on how he wants to make the monarchy “fit for purpose,” William said: “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good. I embrace that and I enjoy that change—I don’t fear it.”

Experts, however, are in fear of it. Why? Because William’s comments come at the same time that Kate Middleton is reportedly “quietly rebelling” against the Royal Family’s rules, opting to prioritize her health over people-pleasing, and expressing a desire to live off-grid. All of this has prompted royal commentators to suspect William is intending to be a “part-time King.”

”People are worried that by putting family life and privacy first, William could start to lose touch with the public,” a royal expert told RadarOnline. “The late Queen always believed visibility was essential—and some think he’s pulling back more than he should.”

The expert went on to say that this move is “deeply unsettling” because it “could alienate his subjects.”

The concept of William being a “part-time King” isn’t too new, though. Last year, several tabloids branded him a “10am to 4pm prince,” while back in his younger days, he was more than once labelled as “work-shy Wills.”

That being said, living a healthy, balanced life shouldn’t be considered a negative—especially following Kate’s recent health issues. “Kate wants a peaceful, healthy life, and William is determined to make that happen,” a source close to Prince and Princess told RadarOnline. “But to do that, he’ll have to find a balance between being the private husband he wants to be and the public King he’s expected to become.”
