A woman who has been involved in “small P” politics has become the youngest councillor ever in the history of St. John’s.

Kate Cadigan, who’s 21, amassed over 16,000 votes to surpass every other candidate in the at-large category Wednesday night.

She actively encourages women and gender-diverse people to offer themselves as candidates.

While she used social media in the election campaign, she says it’s the personal interaction which she values the most.

“I went into the campaign listening and learning in order to be the best representative I can be,” Cadigan told the Tim Powers Show on VOCM.

“Knocking on doors and speaking with people at every corner of the city as well as attending community events were all very important components of the campaign.”
