The Calgary Stampeders will be without several starters when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, including offensive lineman D’Antne Demery, defensive lineman Lorenzo Mauldin IV, and defensive back Damon Webb.
Demery has made 13 starts at left tackle this season, helping Calgary rank second in rushing yards per game (121.1) and fifth in sacks allowed (27). The 28-year-old native of Brunswick, Ga., missed practice all week due to a shoulder injury and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Joshua Coker, who usually plays right tackle. Preston Nichols, a rookie out of Purdue University, will start at right tackle in Coker’s place.
Mauldin IV was acquired through a trade with the Ottawa Redblacks shortly before the recent deadline and started in Calgary’s most recent game against the B.C. Lions, though he didn’t record any statistics. The 33-year-old was limited in practice due to an ankle injury on Wednesday and Thursday and has since been ruled out against Hamilton.
Shaun Peterson Jr. will make his first career start in Mauldin’s place. The six-foot-three, 240-pound native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has played three regular-season games as a rookie with the Stampeders this year, recording two defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, and two sacks.
Damon Webb, who was named All-CFL with the Redblacks last season, has made 15 straight starts at safety and recorded 60 defensive tackles, two interceptions, and two touchdowns. Out due to a pectoral injury this week, the 29-year-old native of Detroit, Mich., will be replaced in the starting lineup by Australian-born defender Bailey Devine-Scott, who has made 22 defensive tackles, 33 special teams tackles, and one sack over 42 career regular-season games with the Stampeders. American rookie Brady Breeze has also been activated and is expected to see time at the position.
Calgary has also made a change at boundary halfback, where Lance Robinson will make his first career CFL start. The 25-year-old native of New Orleans, La., joined the team’s practice roster last month and will replace Tyler Richardson, who was released after starting last week.
The Calgary Stampeders (8-7) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (10-6) at Hamilton Stadium on Saturday, October 11, with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders are coming off a tough loss to the B.C. Lions, while the Tiger-Cats put up almost 50 points in a win over the Toronto Argonauts. With a win and an Edmonton loss on Saturday, the Stamps can officially clinch a playoff berth.
The weather forecast in Hamilton calls for a high of 17 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS2, and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 770 CHQR in Calgary and the Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton.
