A detour is in effect for the northbound and southbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near Henry Road in Chemainus after a crash closed the road in both directions for several hours Friday, according to DriveBC.

Around 5 p.m., DriveBC posted an update of a Northbound detour at Fuller Lake Road and a Southbound detour in place at Henry Road following the crash that closed the road roughly two hours earlier.

Crews are on site conducting “Highway maintenance and repairs” states DriveBC in a post, with an image showing crews having cleared a portion of the debris from the area.

Just before 7:30 p.m. DriveBC said it would provide the next update as soon as possible. Continue to check DriveBC for updates.

The traffic information agency announced the closure just before 3 p.m., at the time saying one lane in each direction was closed.

Just after 3 p.m., DriveBC updated that the highway was fully closed in both directions.

Pictures shared by DriveBC show a semi truck jack-knifed in the centre of the highway, with emergency vehicles on scene.

BC Emergency Health Services says it was called to the crash at 2:15 p.m.

“One ambulance with primary care paramedics responded to the scene. There were no patients requiring hospital transport,” said paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites.

This is a developing story. More details will be added as they become available.
