Daniel Gunter, 27, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murder of a child under one year old, namely Brendon Staddon.

Brendon Staddon died at Yeovil District Hospital on March 5 2024 from ‘catastrophic injuries’ including blunt force trauma to the head, scratches and bruising all over his body as well as various fractures.

Brendon’s mother, Sophie Staddon, 21, also of no fixed address, was found not guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child.

The trial has taken place at Bristol Crown Court, and it has taken just under four weeks.

The jury announced their verdict today (July 24).

The Honourable Mr Justice Smith, judge presiding over the trial, addressed the jury after the verdict was announced, saying: “This has not been an easy case. I am very grateful to you all.”

Gunter is due to be sentenced at a later date.
