“We appreciate this incident caused some disruption to residents and visitors due to the town’s food festival taking place today, and we’d like to thank everyone – including local businesses for their patience whilst we dealt with this tragic incident.
“Enquiries are underway to formally identify the woman.
“The cause of death is unknown but at this stage it is not thought to be suspicious.”
A statement from Llangollen Railway read: “Our deepest condolences to all those who were affected by this morning’s incident in the River Dee.
“Our services for the day are not affected and Llangollen Station is now open as usual. We are delighted to be supporting Llangollen Food Festival this weekend October 12 and 13.
“As well as hosting a number of stalls on our station, one of our volunteers is providing his wonderful 1953 ex-London Transport AEC RF bus for the free town food festival service.”
And Llangollen Food Festival said: “This morning a major police incident has happened in Llangollen. The bridge & a section of Castle Street has been closed.
“If you are a stall holder please try and use alternative route via A5. But there will likely be congestion as a result.
“We have also suspended the vintage bus until a time where we can operate it.”
