While the sun is currently shining over Mount Panorama, rain is expected to hit Bathurst later today.
This forecast could force teams to make crucial decisions late that may ultimately determine the outcome of The Great Race.
The potential for rain dominates discussions around the Bathurst 1000; the Bureau of Meteorology forecasted a nearly 60 per cent chance of a downpour earlier in the week.

Following the calm conditions of last year’s race, fans are craving the wet weather that could deliver chaos and excitement.
The BOM is now forecasting a 95 per cent chance of rain with showers increasing.
Showers are expected from around 1pm, bringing strong winds and up to five millimetres of rain.
Rain was a factor during Thursday’s practice sessions, leading to crashes by Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert and Team 18’s Harri Jones as conditions changed rapidly.
“We had a good test on Thursday when it rained,” Fabian Coulthard told Fox Sports’ broadcast.
“A lot of people decided not to go out, but both Jayden [Ojeda] and I went out in the rain and got a feel for this new wet tyre. So we’re comfortable in both conditions.
“I hope the rain comes sooner than later, but it should be great fun.”
