Jack Wilshere is in pole position to land the Luton Town job after impressing in talks with the Kenilworth Road hierarchy, with a deal now understood to be close.
The Hatters, who were relegated from the Championship last season, parted company with Matt Bloomfield last week following a chastening 2-0 defeat to local rivals, Stevenage. And Luton have moved quickly in their search for a new head coach, holding talks with Wilshere, 33, and a number of other coaches.
It’s Wilshere, though, who has now emerged as the club’s first-choice candidate, per BBC Sport. The former Arsenal midfielder has previously held coaching roles at the Emirates and Norwich City, where he had a brief two-match stint as interim manager, but the Luton job – if an agreement is finalised – would represent his first permanent head coach role at senior level.

The prospect of Wilshere linking up with Luton comes less than two months after it emerged that Arsenal had sounded out their former midfielder over a potential return to the club to fill the role of Under-21 manager.
Wilshere declined that opportunity, though, and has made no secret of his desire to land a senior managerial role after his brief stint at the helm of Norwich at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Speaking in an interview with The Athletic earlier this year, Wilshere, who was an Under-18 coach at Arsenal before moving to Carrow Road in October of 2024, said: “My ambition is to be a head coach.
“I didn’t want to take a step until I was ready to impact at this level and it’s taken two-and-a-half years. I can still improve and I’m still hungry to get better. But I feel like I’m ready.”
