NRL fans and players are sending messages of congratulations after Danika Mason and Liam Knight announced their engagement on Sunday. Channel 9 presenter Mason took to social media with a photo of her engagement ring, as well as one of former NRL player Knight popping the question on a secluded beach.
She wrote: “Some exciting news…” Mason and Knight have been holidaying in Europe and shared some recent happy snaps from Sardinia in Italy.

Mason and Knight started dating in February last year after her engagement to Todd Liubinskas was called off in October of 2023. Mason is a hugely popular member of Channel 9’s footy coverage and The Today Show, while Knight played for Manly, Souths, Canberra and Canterbury in the NRL.
The 30-year-old Knight moved to England this year to play for Hull FC in the Super League, sparking concerns from fans about how it would affect his relationship with Mason. But things are clearly stronger than ever after the loved-up couple took the next step and got engaged.

Souths player Cody Walker wrote on social media: “Congratulations guys.” NRLW star Millie Elliott commented: “Ahhhh congrats!!!! How good! So happy for you both.” While former Panthers and Souths player Josh Mansour wrote: “Congratulations!”
Mason’s Channel 9 colleague Karl Stefanovic commented: “Yay. So good. Congrats.” While former NRLW star and Channel 9 co-host Allana Ferguson added: “Congratulations guys.”
Happy twist for Danika Mason after previous heartbreak
The lovely news comes after Mason was “beyond devastated” and “completely heartbroken” by her relationship breakdown with Liubinskas in 2023. Mason and Liubinskaswere were set to tie the knot in October that year at Greystone Estate in the NSW Hunter Valley. But it came to light just a month before their big day that the relationship was over.
“When someone hurts you like that, you experience all the emotions from sadness to shock to anger,” she told The Daily Telegraph earlier this year. “But sometimes you just have to get through it. You’ve got no option, really.”

Mason put on a brave face at the time and was commended for fronting up for work to lead Channel 9’s coverage of that year’s grand final. The 32-year-old had been wearing her diamond engagement ring all season, with a number of photos on social media showing it proudly displayed on her finger. But fans noticed the ring was conspicuously missing when she worked a game during that year’s finals series.
Mason and Knight will continue their long-distance relationship after he re-signed with Hull FC for 2026. “We’re lucky, though,” Mason said in March. “We can celebrate each other’s wins from afar. It’s probably beneficial that he doesn’t have to hear a 3.45am alarm go off every morning (for her work on The Today Show).”
