But the penalty knocked him and co-driver David Russell to third, with David Reynolds and Lee Holdsworth finishing second.
It’s the first time a Ford driver has won Bathurst since 2019; meanwhile for Tander, it was his sixth Bathurst crown.
Payne has now won four Supercars races this year and six across his career, joining a distinguished list of Kiwi winners at ‘The Great Race’, including Scott McLaughlin (1), Shane van Gisbergen (3), Greg Murphy (4), Steven Richards (5) and Jim Richards (7).
