Pakistan-Afghanistan border clash live updates: Pakistan has claimed to have killed over 200 Afghan Taliban soldiers and acknowledged the death of 23 of their own after security forces of the two countries clashed along their shared border on Saturday night, marking one of the deadliest confrontations in years. Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that operations against Pakistan were halted on Saturday midnight after Saudi Arabia and Qatar intervened.

“The situation on all official borders and de facto lines of Afghanistan is under complete control, and illegal activities have been largely prevented,” Mujahid told a press conference in Kabul. He also claimed that the Afghan forces have captured 25 Pakistani army posts.

Earlier in the week, Afghan officials had accused Pakistan of bombing both the capital, Kabul, and a marketplace in the eastern part of the country. Pakistan has not acknowledged any role in those incidents.

Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, who is in India, said that Afghanistan sought peace in the region. “Our doors are open for talks. We brought peace to Afghanistan and strive for peace throughout the entire region,” he said.
