West Coast baseball fans now have the option to skirt across the Juan de Fuca strait and watch the Blue Jays play the Seattle Mariners in the upcoming American League Championships Series after the Mariners earned their spot, defeating the Detroit Tigers 3-2 over a grueling 15-innings Friday.
Following last night’s deciding Game 5 win, the Seattle Mariners now advance to the best-of-seven American League Championship Series.
The Mariners making the next round opens up the option for B.C. baseball fans to cross the border to Seattle next week for Games 3, 4 and tentatively 5.
When the Blue Jays came to Seattle this spring to play their annual three-game series, fewer baseball fans than usual made the annual pilgrimage after U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of imposed tariffs on Canadian goods.
Many Canadians and British Columbians continue to boycott U.S. goods and services in a display of country-wide solidarity.
But some fans still chose to head south this spring and support Canada’s only MLB team, as their display of Canadian solidarity.

If either team is eliminated in the Division Series, the special sailing will be cancelled and guests will receive a full refund,” states the release from the FRS Clipper.
The Clipper Victoria’s “Playoff Express” sailing leaves Victoria at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15 arriving in Seattle at 2 p.m. At the time of publication, this added sailing was not visible in the regular schedule, but FRS Clipper confirmed with CHEK it is still running and they are working to update the online schedule.
