A post-mortem examination is due to get under way later this morning on the body of a 44-year-old man who was fatally injured in an assault outside his home in Doneraile early yesterday morning.

He has been named as Barry Daly, a father-of-four from Doneraile near Mallow in north Cork.

The house and roadway at Rockview Terrace, where he was found fatally injured in the early hours of yesterday morning, remained cordoned off overnight, as did a second location in the grounds of Doneraile Park.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to oversee the investigation.

An incident room has been set up in Mallow Garda Station and a family liaison officer has been assigned to Mr Daly’s family.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and want to hear from anyone who would have been in the village between midnight and 2am Sunday morning to contact them.

They are also appealing for dashcam or mobile phone footage as door-to-door enquiries continue.
